The day now comes to an end
Evening shadows long on the lane
The joy , the woe of a long day is past
Like the setting sun sinking fast .
Soon the wayward kids will be back home.
Tired, exhausted after a day's roam .
Their clear laughter fills the hall
The echo is heard within the wall .
In the field , the farmers slowly walk
Homes ,eager to be with their folk .
The glorious setting sun cannot lure
the homeward-bound guys , for sure .
Home is a place for rest
You've no need to be at your best.
Laughter , joy , tears and fear .
With the dear ones at home you share.
For no one can really replace
Mummy's smile and the fire place .
She fills you with good things in life
Enough to last you through grief and strife.
Mummy's cooking none can compare
For many an hour she takes to prepare
Just to see the family gather round
During dinner , safe and sound.
Daddy , oh daddy ever so dear
Always a humble T shirt he likes to wear
He's the first to gobble down his chicken legs.
Before we have chance to say grace.
Sue, Tommy and Patsy , my dear
This evening I'll not tell you about Lee Pear
Because I will go and wash the dirty plates
and let mummy have her rest.
At night when I lay me down to sleep
Many a stars from the windows peep
Yes , stars , yes , after a while I'll pray
To Our Lord for a glorious day.
But as soon as my head hit the pillow
I only wake to see the morrow
I'll start another new day
Hopefully today'll be safe like yesterday.
