In the Wind ! In the Rain !
" Very soon I'll reach her place .
Very soon , I'll see her ."
Ah waig paddled
on against the wind , against the rain !
The rain became heavier and
heavier
And the wind was just as relentless.
Hand in hand, these two
elements drove off
Almost all people along the street.
Who would come out on
a windy and rainy day ?
No, no one . They preferred to be indoor ;
Sipping hot coffee , watching the rain .
Even vagabonds and stray dogs took shelter
.
Some passers by , hurried past.
The street was almost deserted .
Trees swayed and danced in the rain .
Street lights illuminated
the gray , gray world ;
Long flickering
shadows came and went.
Ah Waig paddled on . When would he reach his destination
?

Where was his destination ? Where was he going ,
In the rain ,in the wind?
What made him paddle on and on
In such a cold weather ?
The rain drenched not only his
clothes
But also his spirit .
" What if she's not there when I
arrive ?
What if I can't recognize
her
After all these years of seperation ?
Three long years ! Yes ,
three long years."
His thoughts roamed on and on.
They'd been writing to each other
After she left for UK to further her study ;
To take a degree in
Bachelor of Art .
Whereas he , from a poorer family
could only study a Diploma
In Engineering Course
In a nearby local College .
This morning , he received a call from her
She's back ! She's back !
Since then he could not rest .
He barely touched his breakfast
So excited ; so thrilled ...
The whole world was singing and
bright!
Though no sun appeared from behind the clouds.
" Well ,I must miss my classes
Death to Chemistry , I don't like
it anyway!
The lecturer never noticed my presence
He won't today ! " decided he.

Ah Wag, he was a rather common
place guy ;
Sort of a man about the street.
But he always had a ready smile
For anyone who talked to him ;
One that brightened his whole
face
And made him look near handsome !
Yes, he was going to the other
end
Of the town to see her
And the fastest way
Was by bicycle !
After he had paddled for a short while,
It started to rain .

" Very soon I'll reach her place .
Very soon , I'll see her ."
Ah waig paddled on against the
wind , against the rain !
His feelings, like the changable weather ..
Sometime happy, sometime fearful ,
nagged and nagged at the back of his
mind !
" What if she doesn't like me any more , what
if she .. ? "
Then he shook himself of his morbid thoughts ... .
" I'll soon see her and know the worst.. "
He soon passed the country-side.
Green trees met his eyes .
The misty morning air still damp
The rain had become a drizzle .
He wasn't so cold any more ..
Padling for miles had warmed him up.
The peaceful scenery calmed the
tormoil in his heart.
He took a deep breath , continued his last mile
In the wind, in the rain !
Finally he reached Len's house .
A modern two-storey building
Overlooking the main road.
Two dogs ran out barking . Windows
opened .
Len's head appeared.
" Hi , Ah Waig , come on in .
You are soakingly wet ! " called
out Len .
Soon she ran down stairs ; stood
before him smiling .
Wearing T- shirt and shorts ,
Looking taller and prettier than ever .
***.
The two pairs of eyes met each other
Stared long and deep .
Two hearts beating fast!
At last she ran to his buzom
He hugged her never to part!
Is this the end of the story?
Nay , not so
To make a long story short
The two got married
And lived happily ever after!
